Hull KR are looking to go back to back in the Challenge Cup

The memories of last season’s Wembley success will drive Hull KR on in their bid to taste Challenge Cup glory once more.

That’s the message from Willie Peters as he prepares his side for the clash against Wigan Warriors on May 30, with Rovers chasing a fifth trophy in 12 months.

The Robins booked their spot in the final on Sunday as they swept aside Sam Burgess’ Warrington Wolves with conviction at the Eco-Power Stadium in front of almost 8,000 travelling fans.

Those supporters will now be dreaming of yet more east Hull glory as they plan out their day out at Wembley and Willie Peters and his KR squad will be no different, as they ready themselves for a third Cup final in four years.

KR tasted defeat at the national stadium back in 2023, of course, but getting over the line in 2025 was a gamechanger for Peters’ men and that experience of winning in the capital only serves to boost their desire to do it all over again.

“I’ve had a bus ride when you’re on the other end and I’ve had a bus ride home when you’re on a positive end, we’re just going to focus on that feeling when you’re on a positive,” Peters said, looking ahead to the final.

“That’s what kick-started our belief, if we didn’t win that game then who knows where we end up off the back of that.

“It gave us the belief that no matter what the game is or what minute of the game, you can still win it.

“That’s the mentality we’ve always wanted and that’s what we’ve been about. Compete as hard as you can from minute one to 80 and we did that last year when we played Warrington. If we continue to do that then we’ll give ourselves a chance.”

Rovers are more than acquainted with Wigan having met them in the last two Super League Grand Finals. KR got the better of the Cherry and Whites last year, and Matt Peet’s side will be determined to get their own back on the biggest stage.

“No matter when you play Wigan it’s always a difficult game,” Peters added. “It’s always a challenge and it will be no different in two weeks’ time – we play them in the Super League and then the week after. They’ll both be similar games where both teams are highly competitive and full of effort.

“Whatever their motives are, I can’t control that, I just worry about what we can control and to be honest, it’s next week against Leigh, that’s our next game and that’s our focus.”
