The 29-year-old has a contract at City until next summer with the option of a further 12 months

Luton Town boss Jack Wilshere has revealed that the Hatters’ league status isn’t dependent on signing Kasey Palmer from Hull City this summer.

Palmer, who is on loan in Bedfordshire from the Tigers, proved his value once again on Saturday as he netted the winner for Luton to beat Barnsley 2-1 at Kenilworth Road to keep their play-off hopes alive.

The Hatters sit seventh, a point behind sixth-placed Stevenage with one game of the season to come next Saturday, when they face a huge showdown at Mason Burstow’s Bolton Wanderers.

Since moving to Luton, Palmer has helped reinvigorate their season with eight goals and an assist in his 22 games, with five goals coming in his last six outings, and played his part in their Football League Trophy win at Wembley.

Wilshere has already spoken of his desire to keep the Jamaican international at Kenilworth Road, and hopes a deal can be struck, once they know which league they’ll be operating in, while Palmer himself has made his feelings known in recent weeks.

“Ideally, yes, but I think Kasey has made it pretty clear that he’s really happy here, and he’d like to stay,” the Hatters boss said. “It’s difficult for me to comment because I don’t know where we’re going to be, but I don’t necessarily think it’s Championship only for Kasey, but let’s see, let’s cross that bridge when we get to it at the end of the season.”
