A host of activities will entertain the masses at the Hull fundraising carnival
Charity organisers have unveiled plans for a huge festival day in Hull which hopes to raise thousands of pounds for a vital children’s charity. A feast of family activities including live acts, stalls, rides and sporting tournaments will take over Haworth Park Sport Facility for a full day this coming weekend.
The Haworth Park Spring Carnival event has taken place at the site for the last five years – but this will be the first time that will see all money raised go to children’s charity Life For A Kid.
Life For A Kid was launched 17 years ago by Dean Hoggard, to help children reach their full potential, deliver equality for youngsters with autism, and to help their families get access to much-needed equipment that is not funded by the NHS.
Over the years, Dean and his team have rallied the community to raise thousands for the charity, helping hundreds of children needing specialist care and treatments, while also assisting families with specialist bikes, trikes, prams and feeding equipment. The team are hoping hundreds will descend upon the event on Sunday, May 3, which has been organised by the charity’s ten ambassadors, including Pete Gilpin, of Hull.
Pete runs the Making An Impact Charity Football Fundraising League alongside two football teams – West Hull OG’S, Alan Dents Allstars – which have collectively raised more than £40,000 for charity through fundraising matches and events. He says this year’s carnival will be in full swing from 12pm, with a DJ and live bands throughout the day.

A large variety of stalls will also be tempting visitors including Life For A Kid’s very own tombola stall, as well as food, drinks, sweets, an auction stall, ice cream, and rides for all the kids with games including hook-a-duck and tin can alley, along with a bouncy castle and much more. Life For A Kid football fundraisers West Hull OG’S will also stage a football tournaments to watch, followed by a rugby game afterwards.
Other attractions include fire walking and a car show. With the May bank holiday weekend event just days away, Pete told how he hopes the people of Hull will get behind their exciting plans.
He said: “I’m involved in football with the West Hull OG’S, Alan Dents Allstars, while charity founder Dean has been involved in rugby with the Rugby League Allstars, and this brings the two sports together for the same charity, with the same aim to raise lots of money.
“For the last five years we’ve staged a fundraising festival at Haworth Park ground, but this is the first year that Life For A Kid will benefit, and it’s a brilliant charity that has helped so many families over the years. So, we’re obviously trying to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever.
“We’re out canvassing, posting leaflets through people’s doors and want to make everyone know about it. It’s going to be a brilliant day – a really busy day with lots going on, so we want everyone to come down.”
The Haworth Park Spring Festival supporting charity Life For A Kid takes place on Sunday, May 3, from 12pm to 11pm, Entry is £5 for adults and free for under 18s.
