The proposals have been recommended for approval

Councillors on Hull City Council‘s planning committee will soon discuss proposals for a 125-metre wind turbine. If approved, it would be erected at King George Dock at the Port of Hull.

The authority‘s planning committee is set to meet on Wednesday, April 29. On the agenda is a planning application from Associated British Ports (ABP) for the new wind turbine.

In addition to the turbine itself, the application includes associated infrastructure including hardstanding areas for cranes, turbine foundations, access tracks, and an on-site electrical sub-station. Permission is sought for the turbine to be in place for 35 years.

At 125m, the turbine would be slightly shorter than the Reckitt’s chimney, opposite the River Hull from Bank Side. The chimney, which is visible around much of Hull, is 141m tall.

Ahead of the planning committee meeting, the application has been recommended for conditional approval by the council’s planning department. A recommended condition is that approval should be granted until April 29, 2061.

Plans explain the turbine is one of two planned by ABP in the area, with the other being over the border in East Riding Of Yorkshire Council’s jurisdiction. The turbines, plans say, would act as a “project to decarbonise and secure energy to the port estate”.

Meanwhile, ABP has recently secured planning permission for two wind turbines in northern Lincolnshire. Both are set to be built at the Port of Immingham.
