Hull KR won 46-0 on Friday evening and Jordan Dezaria was one of the most impressive performers on his debut
Hull KR boss Willie Peters has been given a selection headache by the performance of Jordan Dezaria at Toulouse Olympique on Friday night.
The Frenchman made his debut for Hull KR at the Stade Ernest-Wallon and he certainly made a strong impression with his performance as the Robins cruised to a 46-0 win.
He started on the bench but he went on to rack up 90 metres with the ball in hand, justifying Peters’ decision to rotate his squad and hand Sam Luckley and Jack Brown a rest.
However, Dezaria’s performance has now given Peters some food for thought, with the prop deserving of a spot in the spot in the side against Bradford Bulls next Saturday, while Luckley at the very least can expect to come back into the side.
Peters would rather have competition for places than not, of course, but he’ll no doubt spend the next few days mulling over which way to go through the middle ahead of the trip to Odsal.
“I thought he brought a lot of energy when he came on, and that’s what we wanted from him. He’s earned that, he’s worked hard to get in the team,” Peters said after the game.
“He gives us a really good headache in terms of our pack and what we’ve got available. That’s what we want.
“We have to make sure that when players are playing reserve-grade or whenever they’re playing, they’re putting their best foot forward, Jordan has been doing that in training, and got his opportunity tonight.”
Bill Leyland was another who was given the chance to impress for the Robins and he featured for the first time since his Good Friday heroics in the colours of St Helens, scoring two late tries for Paul Rowley’s side during a one-week loan.
“Bill was a perfect example of what he’s done in reserves, and what he did for St Helens,” Peters added. “It was difficult – he didn’t get dropped as such, he played well against Catalans. It was just the balance of the bench.”
