Brad Fash is set to play his 200th game for Hull FC tonight.

‘He’s annoying.’ The straight-up verdict from John Cartwright when addressing Hull FC forward Brad Fash ahead of his 200th game for the club.

The now 30-year-old, who opened up a new tyre shop near Hessle Road on Monday, will reach the milestone for his hometown outfit this Thursday night should he line up for the Black and Whites against St Helens at the MKM Stadium.

And for Cartwright, it’s Fash’s competitiveness, tenacity, and ability to get under the opposition’s skin that have made his career, with the Hull-born prop set to join the likes of Paul King, Danny Washbrook, Richard Horne, and Danny Houghton in playing over 200 games for the club in the Super League era.

“Everyone at the club will be happy for Fashy,” Cartwright said ahead of the Saints game. “Everything he’s got is down to hard work. He’s not big, he’s not fast, and he’s not overly skilful, but he’s a tough competitor who has earned every single one of those games and in every single one of those games, I haven’t seen him play any differently. I’m sure Thursday night will be no different.

“He’s in the opposition’s face. He’s annoying. He loves putting pressure on the opposition halves and hookers. He’s a pain in the butt, to be honest with you, for the opposition, but that’s what you want.

“He’s made a career at it; he’s very good at it, and it works for him. He’s a competitor and he knows how to really get under the oppositions skin and it plays into our hands more often than not.”

Speaking in Hull’s pre-match press conference, Tom Briscoe also paid tribute to Fash. He added: “He’s just the ultimate clubman, isn’t he?’ He just gets about his business.

“He does the tough work and for him to get to 200 games for the club is another special achievement. He should be very proud to have done that, especially with some of the injuries he’s had over the years, and coming back, and getting through that mentally tough and challenging time, says a lot about the man as well, to be able to do that and put everything aside.
