Hull FC have provided a thorough injury update – including the latest on John Asiata, Arthur Romano, and ten other players.
Hull FC loose-forward John Asiata has suffered another significant hamstring injury, with scans this week revealing that the 32-year-old, who turns 33 later this month, has torn the muscle again.
Asiata – who battled through two hamstring tears at Hull last season – picked up the injury in the second half of the Good Friday derby at Hull KR. A full recovery timescale is yet to be determined, but the club have confirmed the expectation is the player will be out for a ‘prolonged period’.
Meanwhile, Hull will be without Arthur Romano until the latter part of the season at least, with the French centre copping a syndesmosis ankle injury in the derby last week that requires surgery. He is expected to be out for ‘several months’.
Elsewhere, Joe Batchelor left the field at Hull KR after his hamstring tightened up. However, it has come to light that he has picked up a back strain and will miss Thursday’s game against St Helens. He should be available once again for the Castleford Tigers game later this month.
Jake Arthur, who sustained a calf strain prior to the derby, will also be out for a few weeks and is looking at an early May return. The blow is the half-back’s third soft tissue of the year.
Of those already on the treatment table, Harvey Barron continues to struggle with an ankle ligament injury sustained in February. He is not expected to return to action until the early part of next month.
Herman Ese’ese is continuing his long road to recovery from his Achilles injury sustained in 2025 and is also targeting a return to action at the start of May. Jed Cartwright, who suffered a hamstring tear in February, remains around six weeks away from full fitness.
The club are also awaiting an assessment on Joe Phillps after the prop aggravated a fibula stress fracture suffered in pre-season. He played for Hunslet on loan in the Championship last Saturday.
Will Pryce and Joe Ward continue their recoveries after suffering season-ending ACL injuries earlier this year.
The good news comes for two Hull forwards. Yusuf Aydin is expected to return to action against St Helens after suffering an ankle issue last month, while Brad Fash will be available having completed his head injury protocols. The game will be Fash’s 200th for the club.
