Exclusive: Hull FC have secured their next head coach.

Steve McNamara will be the new head coach of Hull FC for the 2027 season and beyond.

Hull Live understands the Hull-born coach has been singled out as the number one target after the exit of John Cartwright was confirmed at the end of the season, with the Black and Whites moving quickly to finalise the deal.

McNamara has long desired the top job at Hull FC, and is now set to coach the club he first played for back in 1989. The former back rower was a Premiership winner in 1991 with the Black and Whites, and played over 160 games for the club.

He will now lead Hull into the future, with the club confident he is the man to take them to the next level.

McNamara has strong coaching pedigree in Super League with Bradford Bulls and Catalans Dragons, winning the Challenge Cup with the French club in 2018. He also made Super League Grand Finals with the Dragons in both the 2021 and 2023 seasons, winning the League Leaders Shield in 2021.

He also coached England from 2010 to 2015 and has had spells working in the NRL with both Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Warriors.

After leaving Catalans last year, McNamara joined Warrington Wolves in a coaching role, offering assistant to head coach Sam Burgess. But Hull FC is his next destination, with the 54-year-old set for a big pre-season at the club this autumn.
