Hair styling for shopping centre customers in return for donations will be on offer

A Hull city centre hair salon owner is taking styling to the masses in the hope of raising funds for a charity close to her heart. Chloe Ladlow and her team will be centre-stage at St Stephen’s Shopping Centre for a day of fun, hair fashions and more, in aid of Little Lady Locks.

The charity helps children and young people up to the age of 18, who are suffering with hair loss due to alopecia or other hair loss conditions, including through cancer treatment, by providing wigs and hair systems, with fitting and maintenance. On Saturday, April 25, from 9am to about 5pm, the Chloe Ladlow Hair Salon team will be raising awareness as well as money for the cause with their Beyond The Chair initiative.

Chloe said: “Little Lady Locks provides real-hair wigs for young girls who have lost their hair through cancer, and we wanted to do something meaningful as a salon to support them. Our goal is to raise as much money and awareness as possible within the local community.”

The day will include free hair styling for members of the public in exchange for donations for Little Lady Locks. There will also be professional hair styling demonstrations on a catwalk stage and a number of supporters are down to have seven inches or more of their hair cut off, live on stage, to donate for wigs for children.

One person has also said they will have an entire head-shave in full few of shoppers, to help the cause. Chloe has also set up a JustGiving page as part of the appeal.

Chloe, whose salon is in Carr Lane, said hair styling would be available all day for a minimum donation of £5 for the charity. “People can just walk up,” she said.

“I don’t really know how many people to expect but I am used to being busy!” Earlier in the day there will be hair extension and beauty demonstrations; there will be a catwalk show and two live hair donations, at noon and 3pm.

A DJ and dancers will add to the fun atmosphere of the event and there will be extension consultations with Beauty Works, luxury hair styler giveaways and Beauty Works goodie bags for the first 50 bookings.

Chloe said: “I’m really excited about it. I really want to get the message out to people that this is happening.

“I started out in the hair industry at 14 – I’m 28 now – and I absolutely love it. I started out curling hair at a salon in Princes Quay and I opened my own salon nearly two years ago in June.

“It’s nice to do something for the city as well, to provide a bit of entertainment. There’s not so much going on for people in the city centre as there used to be.”

On Chloe’s JustGiving page, she said: “Hair is such a huge part of identity and confidence, especially for children. By fundraising for Little Lady Locks, we’re helping give these young girls back a sense of normality, comfort, and self-confidence during an incredibly tough time.

“As part of the event, we’ll be holding live hair-cutting demonstrations, with a minimum of two hair donations of seven inches or more. These donated locks will go directly towards creating wigs for children who need them most, while the funds raised help cover the cost of making and providing those wigs.
