Nigel Farage and Luke Campbell spoke at the event in Hull
Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage, has kick-started his party’s local election campaign at Hull’s Connexin Live. One third of Hull City Council is up for election in May.
For the second year running, Mr Farage’s party hosted a ‘rally’ at the arena. Last year Reform used their event to announce former Olympic boxer Luke Campbell as their candidate for the Hull and East Yorkshire Mayoral election – which he went on to win.
The event was opened up by political commentator and GB News regular, Charlie Rowley. The Mayor, Mr Campbell was also in attendance at Connexin Live.
On stage, Mr Campbell said: “Everything I do comes down to one thing, local people first. If we bring in jobs, those jobs go to people here. No more seeing opportunities pass us by.”

Reform UK’s Chairman, Dr David Bull, spoke at the event. He told the crowd: “I believe passionately that we will become the party of Government.” Discussing national polls, Dr Bull said: “We are way ahead of all the other political parties.”
The leader of Reform UK, Nigel Farage, spoke about when Mr Campbell was chosen as Reform’s candidate, Mr Farage said: “I thought ‘I don’t know, how’s he going to get on? Are the people of Hull really going to vote for Luke and vote for Reform?’ And he didn’t just win, he won the Mayoralty by a mile.”
Mr Farage introduced Reform’s 19 Hull City Council candidates on stage at the end of the event. The council hopefuls were joined on stage by Mayor Campbell.
Despite the several hundred people who attended the event, not everyone in the city was delighted to see Mr Farage and Co. in Hull. A large number of demonstrators met outside Connexin Live in protest of the Reform event.
19 seats will be up for grabs on May 7. All wards in Hull City Council except Ings and Kingswood will elect a councillor.
