Hornsea Inshore Rescue retrieved them ‘cold and wet’ but ‘uninjured’
Hornsea Inshore Rescue (HIR) went to the aid of a dog owner cut off by the tide at Mappleton. The woman was said to be “waist-deep” in the water when her rescuers reached her – she also had her four dogs with her.
HIR said the callout happened on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 3. At just after 3.30pm, the service was tasked by HM Coastguard Bridlington to “a female cut off by the tide at Mappleton”.
In a post about the incident, HIR said: “Within minutes, the crew readied the boat and launched, making best speed to the casualty’s location. A further update from HM Coastguard advised that the casualty also had her four dogs with her.
“Upon arrival, the crew found the casualty waist deep in the water. A fast, safe and effective rescue was carried out.
“Once onboard, a casualty assessment was made and although cold and wet, all casualties were found to be in good health and uninjured, so they were transported back to our boathouse, into the care of our waiting shore crew, who dried and warmed all five casualties, four of which received lots of tummy rubs and fusses from the crew.”
HIR said: “On this occasion, the lady had checked her tide times, but unfortunately got them the wrong way round, a very easy mistake to make, and did the right thing calling 999 for assistance.”
The crew on the callout were James Kennedy, coxswain; Tom Mitchell, Noah Topliss and Rob Carthew, crew, and Carl Handley, launch master. HIR later posted video footage from the rescue, saying: “Here’s some of the footage from yesterday’s rescue of the lady with the 4 dogs.
“It shows how incredibly close our boat is able to get into the cliffs with enough water depth and a very well trained crew, and a great view of how our boat recovers into its trailer. All of this is made possible through your incredible donations, every penny of which goes directly to saving lives on our coast. For that, we thank you.”
