The Hull-born defender has extended his MKM Stadium stay
Hull City have been handed a timely pre-Chelsea boost after it was confirmed Lewie Coyle has agreed a new three-and-a-half-year contract.
The City skipper’s existing deal was due to come to an end this summer, and though there was a 12-month option, the club have now extended it until 2029.
Coyle, who joined his hometown club in the summer of 2020 prior to the Tigers’ impressive League One title win, had been rewarded for his consistency throughout the past six years, which has seen him notch up more than two hundred appearances in Black and Amber.

The 30-year-old has been a near-ever-present this season, bar the opening few games when he was recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up in pre-season, and has been a key figure in City’s impressive campaign, playing in 26 of the Tigers’ 31 league matches.
“I’m delighted,” Coyle told Hull Live after putting pen to paper on his new terms. “Delighted to finally get it sorted, to commit my future to a football club that means so much, a football club where I’m from, a football club I’m fortunate enough to be captain of is fantastic for me and the family. You guys are stuck with me for another three-and-a-half years. I’m delighted and I’m very, very proud.”
Coyle brought up his double century of appearances against Ipswich Town towards the end of last year, and having clocked up so many outings for the club, playing for a host of different managers, shows his longevity, fitness and consistency.
“It speaks volumes,” he continued. “You have to be fit, you have to be available, and you have to be a half-decent player to play that amount of games over that many different managers. That many different managers giving you the nod and playing you most weeks, week in, week out.
“For the same amount of managers to keep me as captain, it’s a real compliment from them guys, but I probably don’t give myself as much praise as I maybe should when you look at it like that, and to be rewarded with another contract, I think that speaks a lot and says what the club think of me, what the chairman thinks of me and what the current gaffer thinks of me.
“I don’t think the club would give a three-and-a-half-year contract to someone at 30 years of age if they didn’t think I justified it or warranted it. I know what I bring to this football club, I know what I do day in and day out to ensure I give my all for this football club.
“To be rewarded with a three-and-a-half-year contract is very pleasing and something I’m very, very proud of and, obviously, grateful to the club and the chairman (Acun Ilicali) for.”
