Pickering Park Pool has been closed for a number of years
A Hull MP has sought an update on work to bring Pickering Park’s paddling pool back into operation. The popular pool closed in 2023.
The council last year announced work to the facility including new jets and water features, as well as a new plant room with an upgraded filtration system, would be complete in “early 2026 in time for the summer season.” The MP for Hull West and Haltemprice, Emma Hardy, has written to the leader of Hull City Council, Cllr Mike Ross, seeking reassurance that the facility in her constituency will reopen this year.
In her letter, the MP writes: “Families in our area have already endured far too long without access to this vital community facility. Pickering Park Pool is one of the few recreational amenities available locally, and its continued closure has had a significant impact on local people.”
The MP has pressed for the council to provide a date for when the public will be able to use the site. “It is essential that local families do not face yet another year without this much needed facility,” the MP added.
In his response to Ms Hardy’s letter Cllr Ross wrote: “I can confirm that construction works to the pool are progressing as planned. The delivery of the works was split into two phases, the first having been completed prior to Christmas.”
Cllr Ross went on to explain: “Phase 2 is due to commence in early March and will consist of the laying of the new colourful rubber crumb pool surface, the remediation of the grassed area where the compound is located and finally the testing and commissioning of the system and staff training. The planned current completion of the works is late March/early April (weather dependant).”
