The Tigers suffered a fifth home league defeat of the season

Hull City were beaten 3-2 by Bristol City at the MKM Stadium, to end their five-game unbeaten run in the Championship. City started brightly before the visitors assumed control for a period, though it was the hosts who scored the opener when Regan Slater exchanged passes with Oli McBurnie, who found the back of the net.

The visitors responded well and scored twice in six minutes before the half-time break through Rob Atkinson and Ross McCrorie, to take a deserved lead into the half-time break.

Kieran Dowell came off the bench to score in the final stages and set up a potential grandstand finish that never really came as the visitors saw it out fairly well to complete the league double.

Here’s how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players at the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon….

Ivor Pandur: Good early save to deny Emil Riis. Beaten twice in quick succession. Perhaps should have come for the corner which led to the first goal. Hard to say any of the three was his fault. 6/10

Ryan Giles: Back in the starting XI after recovering from his hamstring injury, he forced the goalkeeper into early action with a volleyed cross. 5/10

Charlie Hughes: Saw far too much of the ball in the first half with City playing too safely. Tried to make things happen from defence in the second half. 6/10

John Egan: Couldn’t stop Riis from running away early on and found it tough thereafter. Was brought off in the second half for Jacob. 5/10

Paddy McNair: A first start for the experienced Northern Irishman, and could have netted when he saw a shot well saved from Gelhardt’s pass. A tough first appearance. 5/10

Lewie Coyle: Lost his battle for the equalising goal, though he felt he was fouled. A tough afternoon for the skipper in a side that found the going tough. 5/10

Regan Slater: Lucky escape early on after giving it away on the edge of his box, responded well to play his part in McBurnie’s fine goal. Scrapped well and was better in the second half. 6/10

John Lundstram: Won a thumping early challenge to get the crowd roaring, and showed some bright signs. Should have done more to clear for the second. Row Z it at least. Nowhere near his best. 5/10

Joe Gelhardt: Neat exchange, almost saw McNair score. Forced a good save from a free-kick outside the box. Couldn’t really impact it in the second period, saw a shot blocked and wasted a free-kick in the final minute. 6/10

Kyle Joseph: Chased around like he usually does, but couldn’t impact much in terms of chances early on. A little surprised he was taken off at the break. 5/10

Oli McBurnie: Wonderful piece of play to score a fine goal to open the scoring, his 12th of the season. Fed off scraps for long periods after that. 6/10

Liam Millar (for Joseph 46): Got on the ball but lacked the end ball when it mattered, and that was a frustration. 6/10

Lewis Koumas (for Giles 46): Looked lively, and it was his cross that forced the error from the goalkeeper, which allowed Dowell to slam home. 6/10

Matty Jacob (for Egan 65): Did what he needed to well when he came on. Was clattered in the final seconds outside the box, but the free-kick came to nothing. 6/10
