A new club record as Hull KR kick-off their Challenge Cup title defence.
2025 treble winners Hull KR launched their Challenge Cup title defence in emphatic fashion, running in a treble-figure scoreline against community club Lock Lane to claim a club-record 104-0 victory.
Despite the scoreline, the occasion will provide long-term financial benefits for the Castleford-based amateur outfit. Even with the option to take the tie to the OneBore Stadium, Lock Lane were eager to take on the reigning Super League champions on their own ground in what was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The Robins crossed for 18 tries on the night and showed no signs of easing off after building a commanding 46–0 lead by half-time.
Head coach Willie Peters treated the fixture with the respect it deserved, naming a strong squad for Hull KR’s first competitive outing of the 2026 season, with a strong crowd braving the conditions to cheer on their side.
Karl Lawton, Jack Charles, Harvey Horne and Tom Whitehead all made their official debuts, while Jack Broadbent, Arthur Mourgue and Tyrone May combined in the spine. Lock Lane also faced a formidable Rovers pack, featuring Sauaso Sue, Dean Hadley, Rhyse Martin, James Batchelor and captain Elliot Minchella.
It took the holders just three minutes to open the scoring, moving the ball wide for Tom Davies to cross for the first competitive try of the new campaign. The winger, who scored 21 tries in 32 appearances last season, would prove a constant threat.
That pattern continued throughout the contest, with Hull KR repeatedly shifting the ball to the edges. Lock Lane struggled to cope with the intensity, conceding numerous penalties and seeing two players sent to the sin-bin in the first half.
Davies completed a first-half brace, while Broadbent also grabbed two of his own. Noah Booth, Minchella, Sue and Lawton added further tries as Rovers went into the break 46–0 ahead.
The narrative remained unchanged after the restart and, although Lock Lane were left disappointed by the final score, their travelling supporters made their appreciation clear at full-time.
Young outside back Horne claimed a second-half hat-trick, Broadbent added another to finish with three, and Charles marked his debut with a brace. Gildart, Mourgue, Jack Brown and debutant Whitehead were also among the scorers.
The result marked Hull KR’s biggest ever win, surpassing the previous record of 100-6 against Nottingham City in August 1990. Rhyse Martin converted 16 tries on the night, setting a new club record for the most in a single match that dates back to 1910.
