Shops will remain open and continue to trade while options are considered

Jobs are in jeopardy at a Hull fashion store after the well known brand became the latest high street retailer to collapse into administration. Quiz has officially appointed administrators at Interpath to take control of the business, immediately axing 109 head office and warehouse staff.

And around 450 more jobs are now at risk across the chain’s 40 stores, including staff at its popular shop in Hull’s Princes Quay shopping centre. Administrators Alistair McAlinden and Geoff Jacobs – appointed as joint administrators to Orion Retail Limited, Tarak International Limited and Zandra Systems Limited, which collectively trade as Quiz Clothing – say all the Quiz shops will remain open and continue to trade while they mull options for the ladies fashion firm. The website, however, has been shut.

The administrators said that Quiz, founded in Scotland in 1993, has struggled through challenging trading conditions over the last year. They said that, while sales were reported to be stronger than anticipated through to the end of September 2025, they fell below expectations during the crucial Christmas trading period, both online and in-store.

Quiz has also had to weather strong economic headwinds including changing consumer habits, cost pressures from business rates and the recent increases to employment costs. In response, the directors worked tirelessly to explore options to safeguard the future of Quiz, including efforts to source funding. However, with no solvent solutions available, they took the difficult decision to place the companies into insolvency.

Interpath said the majority of the company’s employees will be retained to assist the administrators in trading the business, but that 109 redundancies across Quiz’s head office in Glasgow and distribution centre in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, have been made.

Mr McAlinden, head of Interpath in Scotland and joint administrator, said: “With Quiz the latest retailer to fall into administration, there’s no doubt it’s been a tough start to 2026 for the UK high street.

“It’s our intention to continue to trade all stores and the concessions in Ireland as a going concern for as long as we can while we assess options for the business. We are tremendously grateful for the support of Quiz’s employees and directors who will work alongside us as we trade the business over the coming weeks.”

Geoff Jacobs, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, added: “Any parties with an interest in acquiring the stock, store operations and infrastructure of Quiz should contact us as a matter of urgency. We are ensuring that those employees impacted by redundancy are provided with all available support at this difficult time.”

Quiz concessions which trade from New Look and Matalan stores in the UK, are not part of the administration processes. This marks the third time the firm has fallen into administration. It first called in advisors in 2020, and again less than a year ago in February 2025.

Last month River Island confirmed it was closing 27 stores, including the Grimsby store. Bodycare, meanwhile, closed its two Hull stores last year.
