59-bed The Maltings luxury care home will create 100 jobs at the facility, which was left unfinished and abandoned for several years
A care home that has stood unfinished and abandoned for several years will open in March 2026 following an £8 million investment by Fisher Care Group, creating around 100 jobs in the local area.
The Maltings on Jewison Lane in Bridlington was partially built but left incomplete by its previous developer. Fisher Care Group acquired the shell building and has completed construction and luxury fit out to provide 59 beds for residential, dementia, and respite care. It is due to welcome its first residents on March 9.
The opening marks a significant milestone for Fisher Care Group as it celebrates its 40th year in business, having been founded in 1986 by the late John Fisher. Rob Hall, the newly appointed Care Home Manager, brings 26 years’ experience in health and social care across East Yorkshire to the role.
He said: ” Bridlington families have told us they need high-quality local care options so their relatives can stay close to home and community. The Maltings gives us the capacity to serve older people who need residential or specialist dementia care without having to move away from the area they know.”
The facility features advanced Silver Shield assistive monitoring technology in every bedroom, which monitors resident movement patterns, reduces fall risks, and detects early respiratory changes. The Maltings also provides air conditioning in all 59 en-suite bedrooms and offers all-inclusive fees, currently unique among Bridlington care providers.
Additional amenities include purpose-built dementia care environments, an orangery, bistro-style dining with bar, cinema room, and hair salon, all set within landscaped gardens. Fisher Care Group secured £21 million funding from Triodos Bank UK in October 2025 to acquire and develop care homes including The Maltings, marking the company’s expansion into East Yorkshire.
The family-run business operates care homes in Whitby and Brighouse, including the 66-bed Bridge House in Brighouse and 51-bed Whitby Court. Operations Director Josh Fisher, second generation of the family business, said: “Opening The Maltings in our 40th year represents an £8 million investment in the East Yorkshire care sector and the Bridlington economy.
“My father founded Fisher Care Group in 1986 with a vision for compassionate, community-based care. Completing this abandoned building to serve Bridlington families honours that legacy and our commitment to Yorkshire communities.”
Official opening events will take place on March 6 and 7, with an event for professionals on Friday, March 6 and a community open day to which everyone is welcome on Saturday March 7.
