Key facts about Government investment into three areas of Hull

  1. Three parts of Hull are to receive long term funding packages which the Government say will support “improvements people can see on their doorstep, champion local leadership, foster community engagement and strengthen social cohesion.” The three parts of Hull that are set each to receive the funding are Orchard Park, Greatfield, and Boulevard & St. Andrews Quay.
  2. The Government’s Pride In Place Programme, announced last year, will see around 250 areas across the UK being given funding. £20 million for each area is set to be spread across 10 years.
  3. Orchard Park was the first area in Hull to be named as one of the Government’s 25 ‘trailblazer neighbourhoods’ in the Chancellor’s Spending Review in June. The area was named alongside 19 others in England, with the remaining five being across the other Home Nations.
  4. The announcement of funding for both Greatfield and Boulevard & St. Andrews Quay soon followed. “This is fantastic news and shows that areas in our city are a priority of the Labour Government and will receive these huge investments. We will ensure that local residents are in charge of where this money is spent in their communities,” Cllr Daren Hale, the leader of Hull Labour and councillor for the St. Andrew’s & Docklands ward said.
  5. Each area receiving the money will have a new Neighbourhood Board established which will produce a vision for how the funding should be spent over the next decade. The boards will include various local stakeholder such as residents, local businesses, MPs, community leaders etc.
  6. Hull City Council is set to accept the funding from the Government at a meeting of the council’s cabinet on Monday, January 26. A report to the cabinet explains the council will become the Accountable Body for the fund in the three areas. The council will manage, and support the delivery of the funding.
