Hull FC’s skipper is gearing up for a big year.
Aidan Sezer has pledged to do his best to lead Hull FC in 2026, having been confirmed as the club’s captain once again.
The 34-year-old skippered the Black and Whites last season, with John Asiata named as vice captain, and that same leadership duo will remain this term.
Labelling it ‘an honour’, Sezer is now determined to repay the faith shown in him, having returned to full training and, as exclsuviely reported by Hull Live, on track to make the club’s Super League opener against Bradford Bulls next month.
“It’s always a privilege to be part of this club and be captain of this group,” Sezer told Hull Live. “It’s something I enjoy having and something I relish. I’m very fortunate.
“I’m looking forward to getting going, getting the season underway, and continuing to build on what we built last year. I’m really honoured again, I’m grateful, and I’m privileged to be in the position that I am, being captain of this club.
“Hopefully I can take the club forward now alongside Johnny. We share that responsibility. He’s been in the game for a long time and he has got a lot of knowledge and he’s a great person first and foremost. To share it with him is good for the club and good for the playing group.”
Determined to hit the ground running, Hull kick off their 29th consecutive season in the top flight against the Bulls, with Sezer excited at what’s to come and keen to set the foundation with a home victory.
“It’s always something that you pencil in and look forward to at the turn of the year,” he said. “For Bradford to be back in the Super League, they’re a big club, and they’ve had great success in the past, so it will be awesome to start off our campaign at home against them and with that support from last year.
“We have ambition to do something this year and our supporters are key to us and when we need them, they definitely help us home and away.
“We have expectations to do them justice this year and get a few more wins at home and get a few more points to get into the top six. They are loyal and they always turn out in numbers – it’s good to represent them along with the rest of the playing group.”
Outlining the club’s objectives, a top six finish is every much the goal, and while the disappointment from last year’ seventh place finish is fuelling the fire, it’s very much the team unit that is key for the FC skipper.
“We finished seventh and we didn’t get to where we want to be,” Sezer said of last season. “We’ve got ambitions now for this year and we know where we want to be.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on individual performances, but as long as you’re picking up the slack and you’re doing your job for the team, it will only provide us with wins and get us to where we need to be.
“I just want to contribute and lead where I can with my actions, but it’s not about individuals in our team – individual credits and accolades are not what we’re after; we’re after getting the club to where we want it to be and then all the rest of the stuff will come on the back of it.
“That’s where my head is at and I’ll perform to the best of my ability, but as a squad and as a club, we want to get to certain places.”
