The tennis-like sport is popular in the United States
Plans for a new pickleball site within the Sutton Fields Industrial Estate have been approved by Hull City Council. The tennis-like sport has been gaining popularity in the US in recent years.
The council has approved a planning application for the new facility to be established at 30 Copenhagen Road, which sits on the corner of Oslo Road. The courts will be in Units A1 and A2 of the industrial building. Unit A3 is occupied by Screwfix.
A council report explains the units were previously occupied by a metal fabricator but have been vacant for almost a year. The site will have an 18 space car park.
The report also states that the council received 57 letters of support for the application. The letters raised points including support for the notion of bringing unused industrial units back to life.

The application had been launched by We Do Tennis CIC, which has numerous sites across the country. Their website explains they already run pickleball session in East Yorkshire at the Haltemprice Leisure Centre on Thursday afternoons and evenings.
Following news that their application had been approved, a spokesperson from We Do Pickleball, an off shoot of We Do Tennis, told Hull Live: “Pickleball is massive in America, and we’ve seen the same incredible momentum building here in the UK. We’re thrilled to be taking the next step by securing planning permission to open one of the country’s first dedicated pickleball centres — which we expect to open in the next couple of weeks.
“Our mission now is to spread the word and get residents, of all ages trying this fun, inclusive, and social game. To find out more, visit www.wedopickleball.co.uk.”
