Police are now appealing for witnesses following the incident between junctions 35 and 34

Three people were injured in a crash that closed part of the westbound M62 for more than 12 hours. Police are now appealing for witnesses as they investigate the incident which happened at around 9.45pm on Friday (January 9).

It is reported that a blue Vauxhall Corsa was travelling westbound between junctions 35 (M18) and 34 (A19) when “for reasons not yet clear it is believed to have left the road and collided with the central reservation barrier”. The Corsa is understood to have stopped in a live lane on the motorway when a black Volvo V40 is then reported to have collided with the stationary car.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services were swiftly deployed, and the driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was taken to hospital to receive treatment to a serious head injury. The driver and passenger of the Volvo, a 36-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, were also taken to hospital to be checked over for injuries which are not thought to be serious at this time.”

A road closure remained in place on the westbound carriageway overnight and into Saturday morning. Police have confirmed the motorway has now been reopened.

The spokesperson added: “We would appeal to anyone witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time of the collision, to please call our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 437 of 9 January 2026.”
