The Tigers remain hopeful of bringing in the experienced Championship goalkeeper
Hull City’s move for Seny Dieng has hit a stumbling block over an agreement on the player’s wages, as the Tigers look to negotiate his exit from Middlesbrough.
There remains a desire on all sides to get the deal completed in the near future, with the 31-year-old understood to be keen on moving to the MKM Stadium, but City‘s ongoing transfer restrictions continue to make completing deals more challenging than they would otherwise normally be.
City had initially agreed a proposal for Dieng’s salary in what would be an initial 18-month deal with a 12-month option, which had been provisionally agreed by the EFL, but until the Tigers can agree on the final details with Dieng and Boro, the move remains on hold.
It had been hoped the former QPR gloveman’s move from Teesside to East Yorkshire could be wrapped up before this weekend’s FA Cup tie with Blackburn Rovers, but it may take longer than hoped.
Like the Tigers, Boro are in need of removing players from their squad in a bid to free up space to allow Kim Hellberg to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season, and letting the experienced goalkeeper leave permanently is key.
Sergej Jakirovic wants to add competition to his goalkeeping ranks, with Ivor Pandur the ever-present in the Championship, while summer arrival Dillon Phillips’ sole appearance came in the Carabao Cup defeat at Wrexham back in August.
Should the stumbling block become a problem that cannot be overcome, it’s understood that the City have other options that they will be able to pivot to.
