A man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including burglary and aggravated vehicle taking as well as drink and drug driving

Police used a stinger to help stop a Land Rover that was reported as stolen in Hessle earlier in the day. A man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including burglary and aggravated vehicle taking as well as drink and drug driving.

Officers say they received a call at around 6.10am from a person reporting that their Land Rover Defender had been stolen from outside their property. The vehicle was spotted soon afterwards and police requested the driver to stop.

However, he failed to do so and carried on driving onto High Street, in Carlton. Officers then deployed a stinger on the A645 near Drax which brought the vehicle to a halt. It was then boxed in.

A Humberside Police spokesperson added: “The driver, a 28-year-old man, was breathalysed by officers at the roadside, which returned a reading of 102. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving whilst unfit through drugs, driving over the prescribed alcohol limit, and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

“He remains in police custody while officers continue their enquiries. We continue to encourage members of the public to report any road traffic offences and dangerous driving to us by calling our non-emergency number 101 or 999 in an emergency, when safe to do so, to help hold reckless and dangerous drivers to account for their actions.”
