A section of one of Hull’s main roads will be closed for gas works until February.

From Monday 5 January, Anlaby Road eastbound will be closed between the junctions of Calvert Lane and Hamlyn Avenue.

Northern Gas Networks is replacing older metal pipes under the road with new plastic piping.

Operations manager Chris Keith said the works were essential “to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Hull”.

The project, which is expected to last until about the start of February, has been planned in collaboration with Hull City Council.

A signed diversion will be in place for motorists and residents of Hamlyn Avenue will have access to their properties during the works.

Mr Keith apologised “for any inconvenience caused” to residents and motorists.

He added: “The first two weeks of the project will be engineering work, and we will then need a further two weeks for the concrete to set.

“This is why during this final two weeks, the road will remain closed, even though you may not see any engineers on site.”
