The work to replace metal gas pipes along Marton Road is taking place throughout January
Drivers in Bridlington are likely to face delays throughout January with part of a major road in the town set to close for weeks. Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out work in Marton Road to replace ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes.
It says it will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Bridlington, keeping homes and businesses safe, warm and connected. The project, expected to last until around the start of February, has been planned in conjunction with East Riding Of Yorkshire Council.
So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place. From Monday, January 5, Marton Road will be closed between the junctions of Watsons Avenue and Marton Avenue.
A fully signed diversion will be in place for motorists. Residents of Marton Road will still be able to access their properties during the work.
Chris Keith, operations manager for NGN, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Bridlington.
“We will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.” For further information about the work please contact NGN’s customer care team by calling 0800 040 7766 or by emailing customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
Anyone that smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
