It has prompted multiple complaints from parents in and around Hull

Toys from an advent calendar that Hull children may have been collecting in the run-up to Christmas have been found to include an item that poses a danger. The city’s Trading Standards department has this week warned parents and carers about the unsafe children’s advent calendar contents.

The capybara-themed advent calendar was being sold online and marketed as a children’s toy. The warning has now been issued following the discovery it contained a dangerous item.

The calendar has prompted multiple complaints from parents in and around Hull who were alarmed to find a sharp box cutter included as one of the daily gifts. Trading Standards is extremely concerned that this item poses a serious risk of injury to children, including the potential of suffering cuts.

Further concern has been raised that some of these advent calendars may not yet have been opened, as parents may have purchased them in advance and stored them away for future celebrations. The product was sold via Amazon by an overseas based online retailer at a price of £35.

Amazon has now removed all listings for this product from sale. The details of the product are as follows:

Amazon Listing Name: Capybara Advent Calendar 2025 for Kids Girls Boys, 34 Pcs Capybara Accessories Christmas Countdown Calendar Surprise Gifts
