Search for two men who entered River Hull after police pursuit – what we know so far – Hull Live

Everything we know so far about the incident

  • Police are urgently appealing for information after two men went into the River Hull on Friday, December 5. The men entered the water near Charlotte Street at approximately 8:30pm.
  • Shortly before, the men were reported to have been involved in a brief police pursuit after officers tried to stop a vehicle for a routine check after it was seen driving with a defective rear light. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into a wall in Charlotte Street at 8:25pm.
  • It is believed the two men then fled the vehicle on foot and entered the River Hull. There has been an extensive search involving patrol officers, the Coastguard, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, and the specialist Underwater Search Team.
  • Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth is leading the search. He urged anyone with information, including CCTV or doorbell footage, or who knows the identity of the men, to call 101, quoting log 461 of 5 December.
  • Residents have been told to expect an increased police presence over the weekend as the search continues. Last night, witnesses saw a helicopter circling the area with its searchlight pointed at the water.
