The Tigers host the Tractor Boys under the MKM Stadium lights

Ryan Giles says he’ll resist the temptation to get in touch with his former Hull City colleagues Jacob Greaves and Jaden Philogene ahead of Tuesday night’s showdown with Ipswich Town.

City host the Tractor Boys, looking to get back to winning ways after contriving to lose 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at QPR on Saturday, while the Suffolk outfit were held to a goalless draw at home to Wrexham.

It’ll be the first time Greaves and Philogene will have returned to the MKM Stadium since leaving last summer, but Giles will stay professional until after the game at least and determined to claim a sixth home victory.

“Nah, I’ll leave them to it,” Giles told Hull Live. “It’s part of football, isn’t it? At times, you can try to get into each other’s heads, but I think we just have to focus on us.

“I think that’s the biggest thing, I don’t think we have to worry about oppositions, I really don’t, I think that’s how much belief I’ve got in this team this year.

“I don’t think we need to worry about any opposition, and of course Ipswich are a brilliant side and they’ve got some, some top, top players at this level, but I believe we do as well, and I believe we’re showing that.

“If we can just focus on ourselves and cut these little errors out that are leading to opportunities, I think we’ll be a serious team.”

On the defeat at Loftus Road, which saw City lead twice through Joe Gelhardt and Enis Destan, before succumbing to a second away defeat in a row, which leaves them sixth in the Championship, Giles admits the whole team need to take collective responsibility for the manner of their concessions.

“It’s really disappointing from our perspective. To be going in front and essentially throwing it away at times is obviously really disappointing. As a collective, I don’t think it’s just on us as a back four; I think it’s the bits before that that are where we’re going wrong at times and how we prevent giving the opposition so many opportunities at our goal.

“Having so many shots at our goal and opportunities, giving them momentum, especially away from home (is a problem). We’re scoring the goals, and that’s the most pleasing bit, and I think that’s the hardest bit as well.

“We’re disappointed, but games are coming thick and fast, and we’ve got an opportunity to put things right on Tuesday night, and that’s what we have to do ultimately.”
