The former City favourite is facing a long road back to fitness
Ex-Hull City star Fabio Carvalho is facing up to the prospect of missing the remainder of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in training, with Brentford boss Keith Andrews describing it as devastating.
The Bees forward, who netted once in his six Premier League outings so far this season, will now undergo surgery and begin the long road to recovery in West London.
City had kept in close contact with Carvalho following his loan spell from Liverpool in the second half of the 2023/24 campaign and hadn’t ruled out the possibility of striking a sensational deal with the Premier League club to bring him back in January, had the required stars aligned, Hull Live understands.
There was thought to be a host of interest in the 23-year-old Portuguese ace, who netted nine times in 20 appearances for the Tigers, as they narrowly missed out on the play-offs under Liam Rosenior, but their strong relationship with Carvalho, coupled with owner Acun Ilicali’s ambition, could maybe have swung a deal in their favour. It’s understood that the Tigers have sent their best wishes to Carvalho.
As it is, Carvalho will now follow a similar path trodden by so many players in recent times, it seems, with ex-Tigers man Andrews saying he’ll do everything he can to support him.
“It happened around a week ago in training,” Andrews explained. “It’s been a tough week for obvious reasons – it’s devastating for him. I feel for him. He’s someone who I have a lot of respect for as a man. This season, he’s not been given as many opportunities as I ideally would’ve liked. He knows that.
“We were in constant communication before the injury about his development as a player and ambitions. Unfortunately, that’s been taken away from him for a period.
“We’ll support him really well as we always do. Antoni Milambo did his [ACL] a few weeks ago, so he’s already on that path to recovery. Fábio knows he’ll get support from everybody at the football club during this difficult period.”
