The Tigers have 11 league games to come before attention turns to the FA Cup
Hull City will hope for an FA Cup run this season to help swell the coffers and continue the momentum they’ve enjoyed in the first 15 games of the Championship season.
The Tigers have not troubled the fourth round of the world’s oldest cup competition since the 2019/20 campaign, when they were beaten at home by Chelsea.
City have gone out in the third round in each of the last four seasons, with Doncaster Rovers, Birmingham City, Fulham and Everton all crushing any hopes the Tigers had of enjoying runs into the later stages.
This term, there will be renewed confidence that the Tigers can have a positive run, given the impressive start to the new campaign under Sergej Jakirovic.
Jakirovic himself has a proud record in cup competitions elsewhere, having won the 2023/24 cup during his spell with Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb.
Before City and their fans can again dream of an FA Cup victory, they have 11 games to face when the Championship returns after the international break, starting with a trip to QPR and ending on Sunday, January 4, at home to Watford.
When’s the third round?
This year, the last 32 of the competition will take place over the weekend of January 10, with games likely to run from Thursday to Monday to accommodate television requests.
All 20 Premier League and 24 Championship clubs will enter the draw, and there will be two sixth-tier teams joining City in the hat for the third round.
National League South’s Slough Town hosts National League North’s Macclesfield, while Chelmsford City and Weston-super-Mare face off, both from National League South.
How about the draw?
No date or time has been confirmed by the FA yet, but the second round will conclude on Monday, December 8, after Brackley Town, conquerors of Notts County in the first round, host Burton Albion on TNT Sports. In previous seasons, the draw has either taken place during the Sunday afternoon games or during the Monday evening showdown.
What’s it worth?
Should City finally win a third-round tie, they’ll be awarded £121,500, with losers getting £26,500. That rises to £127,000 in round four and then increases incrementally round-by-round. Games broadcast on BBC, TNT or Discovery+ in the second round were also worth an extra £50,000.
