City have enjoyed a really impressive start to the new season

Sergej Jakirovic has praised the backing of Hull City’s supporters, as he admits the remainder of the Championship will prove to be a fascinating watch.

The City head coach called on the home supporters to raise the roof against Portsmouth last Saturday, and replicate what he felt was a terrific atmosphere for the Yorkshire derby win over Sheffield United last month.

Jakirovic felt the biggest home crowd of the season responded to help his side come from behind and beat Pompey 3-2 thanks to Joe Gelhardt’s stunning winning goal.

That victory, their fifth in the last seven games, moved City up to fifth in the Championship after picking up 25 points from their opening 15 games.

“Yes, I was very pleased with them,” Jakirovic said of the Tigers’ supporters. “They were very, very loud, supporting us and thank you to the fans because we appreciate it and we are very grateful for this support.”

That success over the South Coast outfit was also City’s fifth MKM Stadium success of the fledgling season so far, matching the amount of home victories in 23 games last term.

It took City until the game before Christmas, a 2-1 win over Swansea City, to claim just a second home success last term, which is a significant turnaround.

Such a turnaround has changed the feeling around the whole club, and continues to breed positivity amongst supporters, who feel the Tigers have what it takes to sustain their challenge.

“As I said before, this is a new season, it will be completely different, and I think overall, this table, when you are watching or looking, it will not be like last season,” the Croatian continued. “Everyone can beat everyone, and it will be very interesting until the end of this season.”
