The move is said to prepare the ground for further expansion of the firm’s factory base

A Beverley employer is investing £2m in a new facility in the town. Hodgson Sealants is adding a new warehouse to its Belprin Road base where it makes a range of sealants used in everything from glazing to car making.

The £30m turnover company is already building the new premises which will stand 16m high and provide just under 1,200m2 of space, along with a 32m x 14m canopy for undercover loading and unloading. Hull-based contractor Houlton is constructing the building with the project set to be completed in January next year.

The move is designed to bring Hodgson’s raw material and finished goods storage together in on place, to improve stock accuracy and increase efficiency for customers. It will also free up space on the firm’s existing site for further investment in manufacturing

Hodgson has been manufacturing sealants and adhesives in East Yorkshire for almost 60 years. The latest investment is said to lay the ground for further expansion and is one of the firm’s most significant investments ever.

Danielle Houghton, managing director of Hodgson Sealants, said: “This investment reflects our confidence in the future of the business and our commitment to UK manufacturing. Bringing together all our storage onto one site will make us more efficient as a business, and just as importantly, it clears the way for us to expand our manufacturing capacity. We’ve been growing for almost 60 years, and this is the next step in that journey.”

The new facility has also been designed with sustainability in mind. There will be energy-efficient lighting and solar panels intended to make the building self-sufficient and reduce its demand on the National Grid.

Hodgson was founded by Peter Hodgson in the late 1960s with just 10 employees and a vision to create a putty manufacturing facility. The firm moved to its current site in 1977 and the group now employs nearly 100 people.
