Hustlers has operated from Prospect Street for about three decades
A popular pool hall that has operated in Hull for more than 30 years is set to expand into new premises in the coming weeks. Hustlers Pool Hall on Prospect Street is the home of Humberside Blackball County Pool and is a focal point for pool and snooker players in the city.
Co-manager Alan Robinson, a former professional player who honed his game at the city centre venue since its inception, said excitement is building for the opening of its new home in the former Winfields Outdoors building on Hessle Road. Months of work have gone into the regenerated property, with Hustlers upgrading from 15 tables to offer 18 English pool tables, two snooker tables, two American nine-ball tables and five dart boards.
Alan, who was sponsored by Hustlers in a career which saw him reach the top 32 players in the UK, said the fit-out of the unit within the former camping store is nearing completion. Two new jobs are being created to complement the four existing staff, with an opening date of December 11 now on the horizon.
“Our regulars are getting excited about it – it’s going to be something really different,” explained Alan. “They’ll be sorry to see this old place go. We’re moving from the centre of town, about a mile and half away.”
The new Hustlers is set to be the only venue in Hull with an arena that can host big matches in which crowds can gather all the way around the table. And as well as the sporting facilities, the venue will also offer a lounge area with four booths, Sky Sports, TNT and a bar with a selection of drinks. There are also longer term plans to introduce a food offer.
Alan, who manages the venue alongside Marlie Webster, added: “It’s going to be the only place in Hull that has American nine ball tables, so that gives us a bit of a niche. And the snooker tables and dartboards will also give us chance to get new people into the business.”
Competitions across all levels and sports will run every weekend with fans able to attend matches, as well as watch them live via the venue’s YouTube and TikTok accounts. Local pool and darts teams are being encouraged to check out the venue.
“The last day at the current premises is December 5,” added Alan. “One December 4 and 5, we’ll be running competitions for regulars and anybody else who wants to come along – just to say goodbye to the old place and for everyone to get together.
“We’d encourage anybody who has been involved in the club over the 30 or so years to pop in.”
The venue will also continue its sponsorship of a number of local sportspeople including Ultimate Pool player Zak Robinson, Hull United player Jack Roulston and up and coming darts player George ‘the destroyer’ Buckley.
Hustlers’ new venue will follow its existing opening times: Monday-Saturday, from 11am to 12midnight, and then Sundays from 11am to 10pm. More information about the opening and events will be posted on the Hustlers Sports Bar and Hustlers Pool Events social media pages.
