The Aussie coach was emotional after Grand Final success

Hull KR coach Willie Peters found it hard to sum up what it meant as his side completed a remarkable treble by winning the Grand Final. KR became just the fifth club to get their hands on the trophy as they broke Wigan’s hearts and stranglehold on the trophy with a deserving 24-6 victory at Old Trafford.

The win caps the greatest year in the club’s history after the summer’s Challenge Cup triumph at Wembley and the League Leaders’ Shield triumph.

“It’s unbelievable,”” said Aussie coach Peters, who next week goes into the Kangaroos’ camp as assistant coach to help them take on Great Britain.

“I am proud of these players and the performance to fight tooth and nail to win that. This started on the first day of training after losing the final last year. We knew we had to be better and tonight we did that, we battled to the end and it was amazing.”

After an opening try through Rob Burrow man of the match winner Mikey Lewis, a double from Joe Burgess and a try for Jez Litten helped the Robins to a 24-6 victory.

“Only four teams have won the treble but nobody has done it twice, which shows how hard it is. We may never do it again and we wanted to go after this opportunity.

“Mickey Mac (McIllorum) shouldn’t have played tonight, I need to mention that. His ankle is fractured and it’s been like that for some time and it wasn’t healed but he’s the toughest I’ve seen. In his head he was always playing and he went out the way he did which is great. Jared too, he saved the best for last.”
