Cherry-Evans will link up with Hull FC in the coming weeks

Daly Cherry-Evans’ competitive nature remains as strong as ever as he prepares to make the move over to East Yorkshire in the coming weeks.

Cherry-Evans had penned a one-year deal with Hull FC for the 2027 season and he can be expected to make the journey over from Australia to the MKM Stadium in December.

Given the half-back is only four weeks off a NRL Grand Final win, the half-back will rest up through much of November, before linking up with his new teammates at the club’s University of Hull training base closer to Christmas.

The 37-year-old will be under pressure to hit the ground running in west Hull as Steve McNamara bids to turn the club around after a difficult 2026 and it seems he is motivated to make his time in Super League a success.

“There’s a very high level of competition in me as a person, and that has to stay there,” he told SEN Radio down under.

“I feel like, for me to compete in the NRL and Super League, you need to be competitive.

“I feel like the core fundamental value of why I play the game comes from love. It’s as simple as that. I love the game. I love that it allows me to compete. I love that it challenges me to be creative, to come up with new ways to find a way to win the game of footy with your teammates.”

On his upcoming move, he added: “To the people of Hull listening, I cannot wait to get over there.

“I’m really looking forward to what that lifestyle brings. On a footy level, which is the main purpose of why we’re going over there, is the opportunity to play in Super League.

“That’s going to bring different challenges for me as a player, which I’m really looking forward to.

“On a family level, my kids are going to be out of their comfort zone. We’re still an English-speaking country, so it’s not all that bad.

“They’re going to go to school over there. We’re going to learn a lot about what it’s like to live in England, push through a winter. All those things, and potentially, if the timing is right, a chance to travel over there as well.”
