The Tigers ace could cap a terrific start to his City career with a flurry of goals
Hull City striker Oli McBurnie has been nominated for the Championship’s Player of the Month for September in what would be a fine reward for a terrific start to life at the MKM Stadium.
McBurnie netted five goals in the month along with one assist as City enjoyed a positive period early on in the Championship season under Sergej Jakirovic..
The 29-year-old talismanic frontman bagged a goal in the 2-2 against former club Swansea City, the second in the stunning 3-1 success over Southampton, one in the 2-1 reverse at Watford, and two goals in the comeback against Preston North End.
His form also saw him named in three successive Team of the Weeks, and that continued into October with his display in the win over Sheffield United seeing him make it four.
McBurnie is up against former City star Jaden Philogene, who has caught the eye at Ipswich Town in the early weeks of the campaign, with the winners decided on Friday by a three-person panel including Sky Sports commentator Don Goodman.
Barry Bannan (Sheffield Wednesday)
A leader on and off the pitch for a depleted Wednesday side. Driven on by an insatiable thirst to please the Owls fans, Bannan ran the midfield in all four September games, contributing two assists and a classic free-kick at Portsmouth.
James Bree (Charlton Athletic)
Reunited with his former Luton manager Nathan Jones, Bree has adapted perfectly to Charlton’s wing-back system, contributing two clean sheets defensively, two assists and two goals, including a rasping finish to a team goal at Derby.
Oli McBurnie (Hull City
The 29-year-old is relishing his leadership role at Hull. It showed on the pitch in September with five goals and an assist, scoring in each of his four games, whether that was calmly steering in from close range or powering home a header.
Jaden Philogene (Ipswich Town)
All four of Philogene’s goals in three games came from either the edge of or outside the penalty area as he showcased his shooting prowess that has been fortified by restored confidence. Three came in his hat-trick against Sheffield United.
