The left-back had notched up eight assists in the early months of the season

Ryan Giles admits learning to deal with a second hamstring injury in the space of two months has been a steep learning curve, but one he’s determined to come back stronger from.

Giles hadn’t been hit by a hamstring issue before limping out of Hull City‘s win at Middlesbrough in late December after just five minutes, and he made his return against Watford in early February.

When chasing back to try and stop a Derby County attack early in the second half of City’s eventual 4-2 win at the end of the month, the opposite leg went, and straight away, the outcome was clear as he slumped to the ground.

Giles remains on course to return to action in the next week or two, having missed the Easter weekend, and play his part in City’s final run-in.

His absence has been even more keenly felt with Matty Jacob and Akin Famewo also sidelined with injury, leaving boss Sergej Jakirovic short of options at left-back, so his return, and threat going forward, can’t come soon enough.

“It is still early days. I am only a couple of weeks in, but I am recovering well. It feels good,” the full-back told the club. “I am obviously disappointed that with the first one being my first muscle injury, to then come back and obviously hit the ground running, to then reinjure it was obviously disappointing, so these things happen. It is a hurdle I have to come over again, but all in all, it has gone alright so far, and hopefully I can get on the pitch really soon.

“In the space of two months, I have suffered both hamstrings back-to-back, so it has been a different learning curve for me to get over. I am trying to do all the right things, and all the support I have had behind me is great.

“It sounds silly, but this time around, I am a bit more experienced with it, and I know what I am feeling, and I know what sort of signs to look out for, so I think that has helped me move forward quicker, especially with confidence, as confidence is a big thing with this injury.

“These things happen in football, and I feel I have been quite lucky up to now (in my career) to not really suffer any real muscle injuries, but it is something I have to overcome, and hopefully I can get back as soon as possible and help the boys.”
