Hull KR have been given time to find Willie Peters’ successor.
Willie Peters has admitted he will offer any help asked of him in Hull KR ’s search for his successor, believing the role will be highly sought after.
Peters’ early decision to make 2026 his final year in East Hull – having been appointed the inaugural head coach of the PNG Chiefs – has given the Robins valuable time to identify his replacement.
The former Manly Sea Eagles, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Newcastle Knights assistant arrived in England ahead of the 2023 Super League season, and has helped transform the Robins – ending their 40-year trophy drought with the Challenge Cup in 2025 before going on to complete a historic Grand Slam.
“I’ve got a really close relationship with Paul Lakin, so we’ve had conversations and he’s let me know what sort of coach he’s looking for. If he asks questions and wants my input, I’ll certainly give that because I want this club to do well for the next 20, 30, 40-plus years,” Peters said.
“There are great people involved in this club, and there are strong foundations in place now for future success.
“Whoever does come in will be joining a team and a club that is well established. They’ll be able to thrive and naturally put their own spin on things.”
Hull KR have claimed every major honour on offer over the past 12 months, with the Challenge Cup, League Leaders’ Shield, Super League title and World Club Challenge trophy all proudly on display at Sewell Group Craven Park.
That rise to the top is only likely to attract a rush of applicants, according to Peters.
“It’s a job that’s going to be in demand – there will be a lot of candidates putting their hand up to coach Hull KR next year, and rightly so,” Peters added.
“It’s a job that I love and will continue to love until my last day. Right now, I’m the head coach and I’m proud to be in that position.”
