A man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving

A man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a car after it was crashed into a lamppost in Hull following a “short pursuit”. The early-hours incident happened after a vehicle was reported stolen outside a business in Walliker Street at around 12.20am today (Wednesday, January 21).

When officers from Humberside Police‘s Roads Policing Unit were deployed to the area, it was soon spotted travelling westbound on Anlaby Road at around 1.40am. A spokesperson for the force added: “When requested to stop by officers, the driver reportedly failed to do so and a short pursuit ensued leading the driver to come to a stop nearby after colliding with a lamppost.

“Thankfully, no members of the public were injured as a result. A 25-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, attempted theft of motor vehicle, and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.

“After a subsequent search whilst being detained, he was also arrested on suspicion of production of class B drugs. He remains in our custody assisting with ongoing enquiries at this time.”
