The milestone year will be marked with shipyard stories, never-before-seen art and a visual feast of Goole heritage

Goole is celebrating its bicentenary in 2026, and Goole Museum has unveiled an exciting exhibition programme to mark this milestone year. The first event opens to the public today (Saturday, January 10) and takes visitors on a journey through the town’s shipyard history.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding Council, said: “ Goole ’s bicentenary is a momentous occasion. This exhibition programme is a wonderful way to celebrate our town’s rich heritage and vibrant culture.

‘’These exhibitions will not only honour Goole’s past but also showcase the creativity and pride of our community today. I encourage everyone to visit Goole Museum in 2026 and be part of this historic year.”

The following exhibitions will be taking place throughout 2026.

Goole-Built tells the story of Goole’s shipyard and its workers during the 20th century. The exhibition traces the history of the yard from its Edwardian origins, through the struggles of the 1960s and 1970s, to its final closure in 1987.

It also tells the story of the everyday working lives and experiences of the last generation of Goole shipyard workers through their own words, personal photos and objects.
