Trina and Dorne surprised Hull 4 Heroes with a donation of more than £8,500

Orange Nutters Hand Over £8568.85 To Hull 4 Heroes
The founder of veterans’ charity Hull 4 Heroes said he “couldn’t believe it” when two fundraising friends turned up at the group’s drop-in with a cheque for £8,568.85. Paul Matson was aware that Trina Beeston and Dorne Barratt, who go by the Orange Nutters, were doing some collecting for the cause.
“It’s absolutely amazing,” said Paul. “We weren’t expecting that in any shape or form.
“We knew they were doing a bit of fundraising, with things all over the place, but we were never expecting such a large cheque. It will make such a difference.
“Hull 4 Heroes has had the busiest Christmas it has ever had, with so many phone calls, so many people in hardship. What these ladies have done will help so much.”
The money would help “a lot” of veterans and their families across Hull and East Yorkshire. Paul said the Orange Nutters both had connections to the services, had discovered Hull 4 Heroes and wanted to do something to help the charity.
“They have done all sorts of mad things – well they are called the Orange Nutters – and they do lots of fundraising for lots of other little charities as well. They have said they are going to do lots of different things for us, including some voluntary work with us at our drop-in centre.
“These things get them out, give them a sense of purpose and they seem to have a lot of fun doing them. It’s that case of stronger together, I think.”
The Orange Nutters organised myriad activities to bring together the total for Hull 4 Heroes, including coffee mornings and auctions; cake bakes and chocolate tombolas; a 1940s weekend and bucket collection in Tesco ’s St Stephen’s store, and challenging themselves to conquer the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
