She continued to hit him with it while he was on the floor

A woman who viciously lashed out at her boyfriend after suspecting that he might be secretly cheating on her has finally been jailed after she repeatedly breached court orders – despite a series of warnings. Bethany Gee was given every possible chance to avoid prison during a series of court hearings but she continually failed to comply, Hull Crown Court heard.

Gee, 26, of Bridlington, but recently in custody on remand, denied breaching an 18-month community order imposed on October 28 but her explanation was not accepted by the court. She failed to attend for rehabilitation days on November 13 and 24.

The court heard that Gee was originally given a community order, with 20 days rehabilitation, on June 4, 2024 for an offence of wounding the man on October 2, 2023. She breached the order but, on January 2 last year, it was allowed to continue, with six months added for her to comply.

She breached it again and, on October 28, another 18-month community order was made, with 25 days’ rehabilitation. This was the order that she was in court again for breaching. She had ended up in custody on earlier occasions.

Gee claimed in court that her mobile phone was broken at the time and that she was having problems with other people. “It genuinely wasn’t in my head,” she said. “I genuinely didn’t just think.”

Gee claimed that her phone was “unusable” but she admitted that she had the opportunity to borrow a man’s phone to telephone the probation service to explain the situation. “Yes, but it just wasn’t on my mind,” she said.

“I did genuinely want to do it and go to my appointments.” She told the court that she recently found out that she was three months’ pregnant. At the hearing in 2024, she said that she had three children.

Gee was jailed for nine months. The community order was revoked.

At the original hearing in June 2024, the court was told that Gee and the man had been in a relationship for about five months at the time. She invited him to her flat to discuss their relationship and he turned up the same day.

They had been chatting in her living room for an hour when he received a telephone call from a female friend. Matters took a turn for the worse.

Gee became upset and snatched her boyfriend’s mobile phone and demanded to know who he was speaking to during the telephone call. She began to accuse him of being unfaithful.

The man went up to Gee and asked for his mobile phone back. He made efforts to retrieve it but she told him to leave. He began walking towards the door but saw another opportunity to grab his phone.

Gee was holding a six-inch wrench in her hand and there was a struggle between them about the phone. The man took his phone and ran back into the living room to try to jump out of a window.

Gee hit him on the back of the head with the wrench, causing a wound, and he fell to the ground. She continued to strike him. He put his arms up to defend himself. The blows hit his arms.

The man suffered a cut under his hairline and there was a lot of blood. Traces of blood were found throughout the house. The man believed that he lost consciousness. Eventually, he ran from the property. He later said that he was in pain and was dizzy. He asked one of the defendant’s neighbours to call the police.

Gee was arrested and she told the police: “He hit me first. Did he tell you? How come he’s not getting locked up?” She claimed during police interview that her boyfriend had been unfaithful to her and that there was an argument and a struggle.

She claimed that he hurt her in the ribs and that she grabbed the first thing that she could to defend herself – and that was the wrench, which she used to hit him. The man later said that he was “heartbroken” that Gee had done this to him and that he had been in so much pain.
