JF Brignall Charitable Trust gift has helped push campaign towards its halfway mark
The Daisy Appeal has paid tribute to The J F Brignall Charitable Trust following an “incredible” donation that has helped push its scanner campaign towards the halfway mark. The grant-making Trust’s generous contribution, together with a series of other major donations received towards the end of 2025, means the charity has now raised approximately £1.3m towards its £3m target, for a new digital PET CT scanner at Castle Hill Hospital.
Professor Nick Stafford, chair of the Daisy Appeal, said: “The support from The J F Brignall Charitable Trust has come at a pivotal moment for the campaign, and now we are absolutely delighted to confirm that the scanner will go on order shortly. Everyone at the Daisy Appeal is deeply grateful to The J F Brignall Charitable Trust for this outstanding act of generosity.
“Their donation has given our fundraising a significant boost at a crucial time and sends a powerful message about the importance of investing in world class diagnostic imaging for local people. The new digital PET CT scanner will transform how we diagnose and monitor conditions such as cancer, heart disease and dementia in this region.
“Reaching £1.3m is an important milestone, and we are determined to build on this momentum as we move into the next phase of the campaign.” The digital PET CT scanner will provide a modular upgrade to the existing analogue equipment at the Jack Brignall Centre.
Once installed, it will nearly double annual scan capacity to 9,000 per year, and enable earlier and more precise detection of disease. The technology will also support screening for conditions such as lung cancer, allow repeated scans for individual patients over time, and offer safer imaging for children and potentially pregnant women by reducing both radiation exposure and scan times.

Prof Stafford added: “Every donation to the Daisy Appeal directly supports patients and families in Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Thanks to The J F Brignall Charitable Trust, and all those who have backed the campaign so far, we are significantly closer to making this vital upgrade a reality.”
Recent donations at the end of 2025 include £160,000 raised by the A Mischief of Rats public art trail in Hull. The Daisy Appeal is continuing to seek support from individuals, businesses and community groups to complete the final phase of fundraising.
