Searches resumed this morning for a person still missing in the sea at Withernsea. A major search and rescue operation was launched just after 3pm on Friday when the alarm was raised about ‘a number of people in difficulty in the sea’.

Humberside Police confirmed on Friday night that two people – including a 67-year-old man – had been recovered and had sadly died. They said one person was still missing.

HM Coastguard said the search was stood down at about 12.30am and started again at about 6.30am. Conditions are difficult, as these pictures show, following heavy and ongoing snow and amid freezing temperatures.
