The latest transfer news from the MKM Stadium

Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed the club is interested in signing Rangers’ attacker Kieran Dowell, along with goalkeeper Seny Dieng.

City want Dowell to bolster their attacking ranks this month and talks are understood to be underway with the Ibrox club over a move for the 28-year-old former Everton and Nottingham Forest player.

Dowell is out of favour at Rangers and is believed to be keen on a return to England with City, with only six months left on his deal in Glasgow, and a move could be wrapped up in the near future, provided the Tigers can move somebody out to free up space.

A graduate of Everton’s academy, Dowell has only played twice in the Scottish Premiership this term, with both of those outings coming in the first two games of the season, though he has appeared on three occasions in the Europa League and once in the Scottish League Cup.

“He’s one of the options,” Jakirovic said, before referencing Dieng, who is out of favour at Middlesbrough but has vast experience in the Championship. “Yes, I want more competition. We are searching for a second option, but we will see.

“Ivor (Pandur) is now number one, but he’s (Dieng) a good goalkeeper who has experience in this league, which is very, very important. The main problem is our restrictions. This is the main problem.

“Somebody must go so that we can bring someone here; this is the plan. We have our list, our wishes, some players are calling as well, so they see now we are high up in the table and with lots of points.”

Along with Cody Drameh and David Akintola, Brandon Williams could leave this month, though he’s not yet fit as he recovers from a calf injury.

“God knows (who will leave first), “Jakirovic said when asked who might be first to move on. “Yeah, we will see. He (Williams) had a calf injury, so now he’s also returning on the pitch, but if we can change, we will change.”

Working under transfer restrictions is nothing new, of course, for Jakirovic, who was unable to sign anyone at Kayserispor in Turkey, a situation which thankfully, isn’t as bad at City.

“This is my destiny, it’s my second club where I’ve had an embargo, here and at Kayserispor,” he laughed. “I didn’t spend any money in Kayseri or here. Just free players. In Kayseri, we couldn’t bring anyone; we just had what we had. I’m trying to choose players who will improve our group, and that’s it and using what is available on the market and then God helped me.”
