The Tigers’ goalscorer was complaining of a cramp-like feeling in his leg

Hull City’s ongoing injury crisis shows no signs of easing, with the Tigers waiting to find out the extent of the problem that forced Mohamed Belloumi off in the second half of Boxing Day’s 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

Belloumi, who dragged the Tigers level at Hillsborough after they fell behind to an Svente Ingelsson goal after 21 minutes, left the Hillsborough pitch with 25 minutes to go after complaining of tightness in his hamstring and a cramp-like feeling.

Boss Sergej Jakirovic admits he’s worried about the potential prognosis of Belloumi’s issue, suggesting it could be a flare-up of the hamstring injury he sustained against Southampton back in September, which forced him to miss eight games.

The Algerian winger had only returned from almost 12 months out with an ACL injury a few weeks earlier, and City will be desperate for good news given the impact he’s made since returning in recent weeks.

“He felt tight and crampy. We will see now, we tried to organise an MRI so that we will see how much damage there is, but I don’t know right now,” said Jakirovic.

“I’m not optimistic if you ask me. I’m not optimistic because he had already had this type of injury before, after the Southampton game. It’s the same leg, I think. When he walks, he doesn’t feel pain, which is good, which is positive, but we will see after the MRI.”

Elsewhere, Cody Drameh is expected to return to the squad at Middlesbrough on Monday night after sitting out a below-par display in South Yorkshire, but John Lundstram is not yet back in training.

“He felt some pain in his lower back in training on Wednesday, and he couldn’t play,” the boss said of Drameh, before going on to explain the situation with Lundstram, who had been expected to return at Hillsborough.

The midfielder now faces a race against time to be fit to face Stoke City on New Year’s Day, having been ruled out of the trip to Middlesbrough on Monday.

“Maybe another week. I think he will need another seven days. He will miss Middlesbrough and maybe Stoke, too. What can we do?”
