Techno Noize held a fundraiser on Saturday, December 20, with about £700 raised

A group of club night promoters in Hull have raised hundreds of pounds that have gone towards gifts for children facing long term health conditions this Christmas. The team behind regular hard techno club night, Techno Noize, staged a recent festive edition with proceeds going towards Sunshine House – a facility that offers short breaks for children and young people with long term conditions, life limiting conditions and/or complex health needs

The group have described the “heart warming” feeling of being able to support the centre, which has also been able to kit out some of the children’s rooms with reading lamps to make them more homely. Danny Nolan, one of the Techno Noize team, said the idea to stage an annual Christmas fundraiser had generated a huge response.

He explained: “We do a Christmas event every year and we do that as a fundraiser to help people out who are in need. We just felt its a nice thing to do.” On Saturday, the team hosted a night at Basement on Dagger Lane, from 8pm-3am, which attracted about 130 partgoers.

The turnout – which is thought to be about the best for any of the Techno Noize events at Basement – has helped raise £700, which also included more than £300 raised via a gofundme page set up in tandem. The sum has been spent on toys and gifts for the children who attend Sunshine House.

Danny, who is Techno Noize’s main organiser, added: “One of the team – and there’s about six of us who all muck in to put our ideas forward – Leon, went on the internet and read up about Sunshine House as a cause. So it was his idea to put the funds there.

“I did ring a few organisations up but a lot weren’t taking funds in because it was probably a bit late in the Christmas calendar.”

Four of the Techno Noize team took the funds shopping – scooping up armfuls of toys, chocolates and colouring books that they took to Sunshine House where staff were said to be amazed. Danny and several others were given a tour of the Walker Street accommodation which provides 24 hour care for children up to the age of 18 from Hull and East Riding.

Danny added: “It was just a really positive outcome. One of the nurses there even told us she was welling up.

“They showed us around the unit, including some of the bedrooms. They were telling us some of them are really bare, and that they needed some things to put in their to make it more homely for the children.

“So we got them all night lights. They were really grateful for what we did so it’s really nice to have been able to do it.”

Next year, Danny and the team have plans to donate to Santa Squad – a fundraising group in Hull that aims to make sure every child in the region has a Christmas gift. Techno Noize’s next event will be held in March.
