The left-back had expected to spend the season in Royal Berkshire
Matty Jacob has returned to Hull City and will remain at the club for the remainder of the season, according to head coach Sergej Jakirovic.
Jacob had been on loan for the season at League One side Reading, but damaged his knee in the Royals’ FA Cup defeat to Carlisle at the beginning of November.
Reading chief Leam Richardson had been coy about Jacob’s future at the SCL Stadium, given his injury, telling reporters in the local media in Berkshire that conversations were ongoing.
The 24-year-old, who is out of contract at the MKM Stadium in summer 2027, is now back in East Yorkshire and undergoing his rehab as he looks to get himself back to full fitness.
“The plan is that he will stay with us from January,” Jakirovic told Hull Live when asked about the injury situation with the full-back following his latest injury setback.
“Right now, he is also working individually. He has individual sessions with Matt Busby (fitness coach), so we will see how his progress goes, and then he will be with the group from January.
“I think that he got a kick there (in his knee), it happened on loan at Reading. Everything at the moment is going according to our plan for Matty.”
Jacob made 16 appearances in all competitions for Reading, with 14 of those coming in League One. Jacob’s return to the Tigers will provide cover for Ryan Giles and ex-Manchester United youngster Brandon Williams, with the latter currently sidelined with a calf injury. “No, he will stay with us, and that is our plan for him,” the Croatian added.
