Humberside Police has issued an appeal for information after reports of a grey Land Rover Freelander being involved in a collision with a pedestrian. The force said the incident took place on Norwood, Beverley, near the junction with Mill Lane at around 7.40am on Friday (December 19).

Emergency services attended the scene and an 81-year-old woman was taken to hospital for life-threatening injuries. Sadly, she has since passed away from her injuries.

A spokesperson said the woman’s family have been made aware. They are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle whilst over the specified drug limit and causing serious injury by careless driving. He has since been released from custody pending further investigation.

“Officers are continuing with lines of enquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time of the collision, to please call our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 73 of 19 December.”
