She later threatened a disabled DJ with a hammer and spat at police
A violent and aggressive woman tried to headbutt and bite a female guard during a nasty confrontation at Hull Royal Infirmary and threatened to slit her throat after angrily refusing to leave. Emma Peak later threatened a disabled DJ in a pub with a hammer before turning violent during a series of incidents at a police station, Hull Crown Court heard.
Peak, 47, from Hull, but recently in custody on remand, had been convicted in her absence at a trial before Hull Magistrates of assaulting a security guard. She admitted other offences of threatening a person with an offensive weapon, two offences of assaulting emergency workers, threatening behaviour and criminal damage.
Stephen Welch, prosecuting, said that a female security guard at Hull Royal Infirmary was called to the minor injuries department on March 9 because Peak was refusing to leave. She made threats and was escorted outside the hospital.
The security officer tried to remove her but Peak tried to headbutt her, tried to bite her and ripped her T-shirt. She made threats to slit the woman’s throat.
During police interview, Peak denied assaulting the guard and claimed that the woman fell and accidentally ripped her T-shirt. On May 1, a DJ at a pub in Hessle Road, west Hull, saw Peak enter the premises. He had restricted mobility and used a wheelchair.
She seemed to be under the influence of drugs and she was holding a hammer. She told him: “I will do time. I will murder. Get up out of your chair. I know you can walk.” Peak threatened the DJ with the hammer but a customer took it off her.
She took the victim’s glass of beer and walked out. Police were alerted and Peak was arrested. At Clough Road police station, she became “abusive and nonsensical” and became even more abusive.
She said that she wanted to shoot a police sergeant in the head and stood up and spat towards him, with the spit hitting him straight in the face, with some in his eyes and mouth. She was taken straight to a cell.
At 7.30am on May 2, a female detention officer made Peak a cup of hot chocolate but Peak spat in her face, with it landing on her forehead, nose and cheek. She smeared her own excrement over the police cell.
Nathan Davis, mitigating, said that Peak had been in custody on remand for about eight months. She had suffered problems and had a very bad record of previous convictions.
Judge John Thackray KC told Peak: “These offences are all appalling for the victims. It really is quite frightening. You behaved in a very aggressive manner.
“You were there with a hammer and you were threatening. You threatened the DJ with a hammer. You were very erratic. The police were called.
“You were very threatening to the police and you spat at one police officer and then you committed the offence of criminal damage.”
Peak was jailed for 16 months but, because of her time in custody, she was expected to be released shortly afterwards. She appeared in court via a video link from New Hall Prison, near Wakefield.
